Shelf Sizing & Weight Capacities

Our steel industrial metal shelving comes in a variety of standard sizes:

  • 36” – 48” wide
  • 18” – 24” deep

We have various available gauges of steel to hold up to 250 – 600 lbs. The right gauge for you will depend on the items you store. For instance, if you sell tile flooring, you’ll want the highest weight gauge available. If you stock plastic automotive parts, weight may not be as much of a concern.

Shelving Styles

The two standard ways that steel industrial shelving is assembled are clip style and nut and bolt, although there are other varieties available as well. Here’s a little more information about each type:

Clip-Style Shelving

Clip-style shelving, sometimes called clip-bolt shelving, uses a number of metal clips that fit into pre-cut slots along the uprights or columns of the metal shelving unit. This design allows you to easily adjust the shelves’ height by moving the clips up or down to different slots. It’s a tool-free assembly, making it quick and flexible for various storage needs. The shelves simply rest on the clips, which can make reconfiguration and assembly quite efficient. Since this style is easy to install and change as your storage needs change, it’s ideal for businesses searching for versatile solutions.

Nut and Bolt Shelving

Nut and bolt shelving, as its name suggests, involves utilizing nuts and bolts to secure the shelves to the uprights. This type of steel shelving typically requires tools for assembly and is more time-consuming to put together and adjust. However, it tends to provide a more stable and sturdy structure, making it more suitable for heavier loads.

"I could not have been more pleased with the work these guys did. I received several quotes and theirs was the most professional by a long shot. The guys who did the installation were beyond amazing. They not only did a great job, but went out of their way to make sure everything was setup the way we wanted and cleaned up after they were done leaving the jobsite better than when they arrived. "

Absolutely! Our metal and wire shelving products are versatile enough to be effective in various settings, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, office environments, retail stores, and much more. For offices and customer-facing retail spaces, we offer sleeker, more aesthetically pleasing styles (including mobile shelving options) that blend seamlessly with professional décor while providing exceptional functionality and durability. For warehouses, our durable steel shelves are ideal for handling heavier loads and more demanding inventory storage requirements.

Maintaining your shelving units is straightforward and crucial for prolonging their life and performance. Regularly inspect and tighten any loose bolts and screws to check stability. Keep shelves clean from dust and debris, which can accumulate and potentially damage items and shelves. Never exceed weight limitations and always evenly distribute weight across the shelves to avoid undue stress on any one part of the structure. If damage has occurred — whether due to forklift collision, product shifting, or any other reason — take the shelving out of use immediately, have it inspected as soon as possible, and do not use it to store inventory until it is checked for safety.
